Challenging Ageism: Global Perspectives on Community and Workforce

By Dr. Jennifer Luke
Recorded on September 22, 2021

The world’s population is becoming older, due to lower birth rates and advancing medical and health wellness across many nations. By 2050, the world’s population of people over the age of 60 will double. How should society, mindsets, and worldviews change so that career practitioners, employers, and communities better adjust services, policies, technology, and support for their older community members and workers? Understanding the worldviews, challenges, assumptions, mindsets, and cultural differences towards elders is vital.

Retaining knowledge within the workforce is essential and so it is important to highlight to employers how older workers can be valuable trainers and mentors. Older community members and those within the workforce are not burdens, they are valuable contributors with experience and knowledge to give.

This webinar will cover examples of how various countries deliver on age-friendly initiatives. Case studies, global statistics and trend data relating to ageism will also be discussed. Participants will gain the understanding of the individual motivations and needs of an older worker.
